HOMEBRED w/ Knoxville native & Louisville City pro Tyler Gibson • #54

In this episode, Brian chats with Tyler Gibson, a Knoxville-born midfielder who currently plies his trade for Louisville City of the USL Championship.

Tyler, who played for a state-championship-winning Knoxville Crush side and Knoxville Catholic, is the most high-profile Knoxville player active in professional soccer. After graduating from Catholic, Tyler starred for UNC Charlotte, where he was a four-year starter. He went on to play for then second-division North American Soccer League (NASL) sides San Antonio Scorpions, Rayo Oklahoma City, and the San Francisco Deltas, which he helped lead to a national title in 2017. Afterward, he played for FC Cincinnati and Indy Eleven of the USLC, before transferring to Louisville.

Brian and Tyler discuss his introduction to the beautiful game, his early career as a club and high school player in Knoxville, what it takes to succeed in the pros, and what it means for him to see his birth city on the soccer map.
